Excellent work mate, I am glad you got your beast up and running but sorry it broke. It looks excellent though.

Thanks for the comments guys - much appreciated.

Kind of makes it all worthwhile when others get enjoyment form seeing it run as well.

I fully intend to keep running this car at vintage meetings. It really was awesome to drive. I will only run it in stock though - just cant afford more front axles!

Now I have to get onto my "Chainsaws" (Yokomo 834b's) - I have about 5 of them begging to be built and run again!

Cheers

Hey Erik - did not get any PM - then again - it is really hit and miss on this PM system as I said before. Please email me : retroracer@optusnet DOT com DOT au Bearings appear to be imperial and also flanged. Will check my NIP set to be sure. Freak sized axles though.

Thanks again everyone for the kind comments.

Cheers

You got email
And you got me to fix the flash player on my laptop: just so I could see your video of the MIP10: COOOL
I did also take a look at the 2004 ahiru vintage event video as the 2008 version is what I was preparing the 44b for. Let me know quickly if I need to go and find another body as the event is coming monday

I believe the axles itself can be found quite easily I think. He who shall not be named gave a solution to it in Kyoshofan's MIP build thread. I found them at tower after that but couldn't buy any as I don't have a credit card :(

It's only the dogbone length which is a problem...

I'll try and find the thread.

Ok. Well this is the thread you would have been looking for...

http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3388

But so the info is easily found...

Apparently the axles are the same as the TC3 axles which are 3/16 of an inch. So with 3/16 axles it uses the bearings from your car front wheels 3/16 by 5/16 flanged.

If it's the dogbone that's broke then MIP will make some, but there is a minimum order...btw I need one

The manuals are in the scans section too and they mention the bearing sizes for future reference when online and without a manual to hand.

BTW I think the easiest way would be to measure the CVD bone length and send an email to MIP and ask what they make now that is similar (why I haven't done it is anyone's guess). BTW good luck and I'd like to find a solution to if possible.

On a side note and so the info isn't lost...

For the metric (older MIP kits) apparently, hpi pro 3 axles and standard sized vintage gold rc10 cvd bones make a good fit.

Thanks Doc - the bearing sizes you qoute are correct - just read the manual for my NIB Legends kit. I opened it just for the occasion. I suppose I could have just taken the bearings out of the car too...... Now I will definately build a new built one for the shelf!

I will let you all know what works and what doesnt when I get the bits.

Cheers

Which bit have you actually broken? The axle or the dogbone part?

Broke 2 wheel axles in total.

Lost one driveshaft as well - but have 1 spare - WHEW!

I have 1 more wheel axle spare - but trouble is - I plan to keep running it - so would be better to find spares. Dogbones are pretty hard to break - they generally just bend or get lost.

Thanks again mate

Cheers

Wow. You must have run it hard. How do you lose a driveshaft? Aren't CVD's all sort of one piece when built? (I've never looked to hard)

Also can you unbend/straighten a dogbone part of the cvd set-up? Mine is slightly bent! :( Any tips?

So hopefully the axles will work out for you then :)

cheers

Sounds crude - however I have made up a hardwood block with various sized slots in it that hold a driveshaft. I place the bent driveshaft in it after heating it skightly - and belt the living spunk out of it with a rubber mallet until it is "true" again....seems to work really well.

The axles actually snapped at the point where the hook up to the CVD's- N A S T Y !

Cheers

Ah hah! Gentle persuasion with the old hammer it is then

I'd like to work out if there is a modern equivalent to the dogbone part...so keep me in mind if you hit on a solution.

mmm, unless you want to switch to metric steering knuckles there's no way I can be of help to you.
Imperial stuff isout of my league
Hope you find a way.
PS: are those really CVD's or just the old Universal joints?
