XX for stock racing - 2.19 vs 2.61

Post by Cplus »

Interested in peoples thoughts on the buggy vs truck tranny for racing stock.

Vintage class in Australia is either old school brushed 27T stock motors or 21.5T brushless. Our tracks are outdoor dirt and a mix of grip levels, but not indoor clay craziness.

What gearbox and why?

Forgot this bit, apparently BK used the truck trans from time to time - I presume, in very OCD style, to move the motor just where he want3d it.

Running the 2.61 in my Super XXT with a 13.5T. I would go with the 2.19, if I had the option. The newer motors rated at 21.5, 17.5 and 13.5 are higher torque and less RPM than their older equivalents. I had to use a huge Pinion and small Spur to get it where I needed.

I also had to use a newer style slipper in my build, since full tight was STILL slipping on the original dual slipper running DIRT.

I am currently building a Kinwald XX and have both transmissions and was thinking to run the 2.61 over the 2.19 what do you guys think?

Figure out what final ratio you want then figure out what spur and pinion you would need and see which one is easier to run. If you need to buy anything(spur/pinion) for either setup, it's probably a wash.

In theory, the larger diff gear would be stronger. But for stock racing, it doesn't matter.
