Differnce between duratrax and kyosho gold shocks
Just like it says... whats the difference? They look very similar from the outside. Ano color is just about the same... just curious as I found a pair of DTX fronts

What's the difference between Kyosho golds and platinums? Weren't the platinums considered better(at least by Kyosho)?

Yeah, Kyosho thought they were better; I personally don't think so. They look cool, if that counts for anything .
Platinums have an internal adjustable valve that allows you to change the damping characteristics without changing the oil viscosity. It basically does the same thing as changing the number of holes/hole size in the piston, you just don't have to take the shock apart. Of course, the two tiny o-rings that make up the internal valve can wear out and mess everything up. So, IMO, it's just easier to use gold shocks and change the oil and/or pistons.

Re: Differnce between duratrax and kyosho gold shocks
Thanks for the info. I have a set of platinums that I have absolutely no idea how they came into my possession. They've been around as long as I can remember though. I've never had them apart to even see what's going on in there. I just remember they were something like $50 a pair which was staggering BITD. I know for a fact I didn't buy mine or steal them. It's weird, they've just always been around...

I never was a big fan of the platinums. They fouled up easier and required lots more maintenance and cash to maintain. I liked the gold shocks much better.

Mine have required neither! Of course I've never paid them much mind, or raced them competitively. Then again I've never raced anything competitively...RichieRich wrote:required lots more maintenance and cash to maintain
