My Hirobo Zerda

Pretty much a new build.
I had a lot of parts gathered up over a few years.
missing the driver (although I 'think' I could use a Kyosho or indeed AE one) and missing 1 cross piece for the cage.

my story with this car was that I went to a national event in Scotland and a friend let me use his Zerda, but the deal was if we ended up in the same main he'd be running it !
He did well, B main !
I put the same car in the A and ended up 4th overall ! great car !
mind you, we chopped the back right off them, converted to gear drive with a more inboard motor setup. which made them great indoors especially.

I'm not sure what to do with this car though, but I should just finish it off.
It sits next to my Rock N City in my collection, a couple of nice oddball cars !
Anyone else got any nice Hirobo cars or stories?
Stu

Did you see that Sabulatech prints the roll cage clips now? I sent him one to copy and they turned out pretty nice! Especially for $5!

Zerda is one of those cars from my past I would like to re visit. I bought 1 from circuis hobbies, ran it till it was dead, stripped it down, threw the plastic bits away. Made from good flexible fiber reinforced plastics, and durable resins,,, very cool looking. a hundred bucks brand new in about,,,, 1986-87 ish?

I just talked with the guy who let me use his car earlier today !
Turns out he still has the box for it.
not sure he'd part with it after all this time. But I will ask

In the USA, they were marketed like a toy. Box was designed to display the car through a clear portion that went from top to front side. Mine was pre built, and looked soo very good in its display box!

got the pieces in this week !
THey really do finish off the look of the cage.
Not sure if I should sand down the slight edges that the 3d printed stuff has, but from anything other than very close inspection it looks great.

Now, to find a driver figure, and finish this one off completely !

Yeah I was super happy with mine too! Hard to beat for $5! The print isn't perfect but sanding them or using a solvent on them should help for those up close sessions 8) since mine were prototypes he had taken solvent to one of them and it made a big difference. Might ask him what he recommends, as I have forgotten

Solvent?
What exactly? do you remember?
And to do what exactly? like melt a little to smooth it off?
I was wondering about even light sanding as there isn't a lot of material there in the first place.

that said, even doing nothing, it has improved the look of the car much more than $5 should :)

With one of the test parts I did sanding with 500 grit sandpaper and then light brush with Acetone. Acetone will soften and bind the plastic layers together. It will also put a shine on the plastic. Don't use too much Acetone or it will soften the plastics to much and cause it to soften and deform. After brushing with Acetone you have to left it sit for a little bit to react and then harden again.
