Battery placement in a vintage gold pan

I have a vintage gold pan and have seen many of you that have the battery placement in line with the body - not sideways like in the directions. Does this make a difference ?? Is that set up for racing - off road or what ???

I like the balance of the in-line placement, also seems like there is more usable space in the pan for electronics.

the majority of battery packs won't fit in the tub width wise anyway, so what other choice do you have?

Ive almost fully restored my Team Associated RC10, and was wondering about the nicad battery....
Can i Use a 7.2 stick battery or is there something else I should be looking for?

I dont want to damage the receiver, or the motor, so some expert...

I am finishing up my RC10CE driver project and realized none of my batteries fit. Anyone have a LIPO that fits this set up? I am thinking a soft case would do it but I'd rather stay hard case for Lipo if possible. Or at least a decent 6 cell NIMH,...

you can Drill, countersink, cut servo tabs and mount servo with forward mount only + servo tape - it takes 5mns, you just need a drill and a countersinking bit, it doesn't have to be super accurate, heck, even I with my 2 left hands did it properly...

OK, another newbie question for ya. I'm noticing how rear heavy these things are with a battery installed. Would it be to my advantage to go across the chassis vs. front to back? its gonna be a ft rc10 runner so no need to worry about the 'era look'...

In order to run the same battery I run in my 22 I want to remount in my XT racer. Curious from people with more racing experience which you would choose and why. The battery is so light it probably matters less than old days but not sure....

Good thinking. I could even drill the holes in chassis such that I could move these hold downs back and forth together.

I have a vintage rc10 gold pan with the 1/4 rear axles, is there any rims that will fit this? I've bought some from j concepts but they rub on the shock, there to deep.

I was looking at these not sure if they would fit, or rub on the shock like...

So these would direct mount to the rear?

With 12mm hex adapters. There are some cheap, 3D printed ones on Ebay but Factory Works sells some nice aluminum ones.

These are those wheels, except with LRP tires. JConcepts B2 fronts....

that motor setup will be ok with a good 6 gear trans.... good 6gear trans = bearings (i use out drive bearings too) and try using idle gears less then 20 years old :D (new ones are like $5 and worth it) ... its like people said the 6 gear can take a...
