Better to find out now before he get them. just one more good thing about this site and the help it provides :D

I saw the Thorp idler gears on Ebay and thought they're no good without the other gears. But I guess you can just sit on them and wait. You'll probably have as much wrapped up in shipping costs as you will in the parts. I hate it when the part is less than the shipping.

i wouldn't be going out buying parts for something that i haven't even taken apart yet. he might not even need idlers. maybe he'll take it apart now to see what's inside. you never know, it could already have the 48p setup in it. it's happened to me already. that was a nice surprise. :)

Ah crap; yah I didn’t realize that these require the full set of thorp drive gears/diffs... Actually I am not sure what is in the tranny I have. It is a heavily modified car that was set up for mid motor; there is a good chance that the tranny might contain some aftermarket parts. It has a 108t 64p Duratrax spur gear on it.

Based on my thread searches in the forum I was under the impression that just adding the 48p idlers was the ticket for 6 gear nirvana. Obviously I am wrong...!

More info when I take the thing apart.

Here is what it currently looks like-

Ok, now a full Thorp 48p gear conversion kit has appeared on ebay; kit includes outdrive, idler and differential shaft gears...

I still haven't had time to take my transmission apart to see what is lurking inside.

Here is a photo of the item on ebay; is the seller here on this message board?
