Under development: Mr. ED's ULTIMA'S : Proj. 004

Post by Mr. ED »

Hi folks,

I had to put the 4X4 Ultima conversion in the fridge for a while.
Basically 'cause I got hit by a bad desire to return to the Ultima's roots: 2WD buggy style.
This site and the buggies showcased here were the major stimulans and when I came across a set of 2 odd sized dogbones the knot was tied.

I'm using what I got in my drawers to build my signature version, which automatically makes it mostly vintage sofar.
The main idea is to widen it a bit overall and move the rear wheels further back: to extend the old-fasioned short wheelbase and have the moter sit more inbetween the wheels.
The battery is planned to go Asso-wise like my earlier ultima proj. 001 and 003 on this forum.
The front uses 4WD hubs now and the car was upgraded to modern day sized wheels and tires all around.
The front shocks and the ultima pro chassis are temps while I'm looking for something 'better'.
Body suggestion are wellcome: I'm thinking narrow as I don't want to stick to the saddle-pack battery configuration really.

What d'ya think?

I 4wd Ultima? Wasn't that an Optima? Who made that conversion?

That looks like a Frankenstein car. In this case, I mean that in a good way. 8)

Those are Triumph front arms indeed.

Edit: eeuht, they are pro-X arms. The Pro-X is the follow-up of the triumph (almost unseen where I lived because of a bad dip in the distribution for that period)

The conversion's from an obscure small hobbyist , it's a Mr. ED product 8)

I don't buy conversions, it's all homebrewn just like the race bug , truck and 1/12 toruing car conversion aka Proj 001, 003 and 002.

The 4WD ultima will be inspired by the optima, but it will start from the spare parts I gathered for my ultima's.

(Allways wanted an optima. But they are pricy now and I won't use most original parts anyway. I actually allready have lots of usable parts from the optima-mid and lazer).

Anyway, a 4WD conversion is in the fridge for a while: just used a few essential spares in creating this 004 and that's not ready yet.
