RC10 CE w / 6 gear Project for Son

well i just got this one delivered today. i will be building it into a street runner with a dirt oval body for my son. he has requested that the chassis be blue so a trip to the powder coater is in the works.

now i have a question. has anybody seen the mip foam battery tray liner in the pic below. its a given it was made by mip. i have just never seen one before. so was wondering if anyone here had seen them?

was the front bumper made by buds/brp? i have one front bumper of theirs but is the wing bumper. it does seem to be made out of the same material though.

this car is just about the exact same as my very first rc10 was. the only difference is that it appears to have factory drilled holes for the stealth. the battery holes are offset. i will know for sure what stamp it has after i pull it apart. but im expecting it to be an early b stamp. and not an a stamp like i had bitd.

the front bumper is a JG.

mip had those battery cushions in a couple different colors. other companies had their own, also. i have 2 nip purple trinity cushions in a box in my basement.

the late 6 gear C.E.'s had b stamp tubs already drilled for the stealth.

yes he was. it had the same look on his face when we opened the package containing my dynotech fancy front carbon fiber shock tower. anytime we get a new rc part in the mail he just glows all day. (guess he gets that after me since mom don't get excited over new parts lol)

anyway as for an update on this vehicle. it has been completely torn down and all the nylon parts have been scrubbed down. the motor plate and nose have been cleaned and all the spray paint removed from them. the main chassis still needs to be cleaned tonight. tomorrow i may run the chassis' out to the powder coater.

the main chassis is in fact a b-stamp chassis as i figured it was. i have drilled and countersunk the 2 holes so that i can have a strait battery pack. i am planning to weigh this chassis after i clean it tonight to see what the exact weight is. i am also going to weight my cheese grater chassis. so we can have a weight comparison between a nearly stock b-stamp chassis (just the 2 extra holes for the batter box) and a completely lightened b-stamp (30 half inch holes, cut down sides, and narrowed rear for rpm worlds arms). i will also be weighing an unmodded truck and buggy nose plate. lets not leave out the lightened verses stock motor plates.

i will also weigh everything after i get the items powder coated to show the added weight of the powder coating.

i saw a while back where someone had asked about weight differences between stock and cheese grader chassis'. so since i am at a point that i can get that info i figure i would take the time to do so for the site.

It is a blast. I actually got y son one with a stealth and kept the 6 gear for one of my projects because it was in excellent conditions.

A tip I would give you in dealing with the little guy is to try to let them do what they want and if they break it, well it broke and we can fix it.

this will actually be his second rc car. the first one was a rc10l. i hand him the controller and let him go and have fun as i play fetch when he would run off the parking lot into the grass or hung up. i was getting tired of the fetch game and showed him how to brake and even reverse with the throttle. that saved me a lot of walking. but in the end i would rather him break a hobby grade rc car like a rc10 or even an rc10 than some cheap walmart special. this way i can fix the broken pieces and get him driving again instead of having to tell him "ohh well its broke your s.o.l. now". plus he likes watching me work on them an listening as i try to explain what im working on and why as he is giving me and intrigued yet confused look.

for this car i will be sticking with the 6 gear. the car will be getting a 65 turn motor so i feel the 6 gear wont fail me. but the other reason to stick with the 6 gear is because the andy's rear body mount wont bolt to the stealth.

You are teaching him more than you could possibly imagine when you include him with this. (even though it is just an RC car) My hats off to you!

that's sweet. you teaching him on how to screw in bolts and how tight nuts and bolts should be? you also letting him do the rebuilding? that would let him get confidence and want to do more.

That can be fun, but my 4.5 year old now knows how to disassemble his entire 12l, which means from time to time I find a pile of parts here and there in his room

well the chassis' are at the powder coater and should be ready some time this week. so between now and then i can get a little more work done on this project. all of the hinge pins have been polished along with the front shock shafts. the front shocks have been rebuilt and the front end has been resembled. i still need to do the rear shock but figure i will do them later on today.here are a couple of the newest pics.

Got the chassis' back today. there are a couple places in them i'm not thrilled about but over all i'm content with the jobs. well this project will go on hold for a short bit until i can get the rest of the parts i am needing to finish it up. i did toss a couple screws into her just to see how she is going to look though.

he held my airtronics m11 fhss2 and my atomic carbon s2 (at the same time) shortly after he turned 4. it was a little gut clenching at first but i trusted him. he has been raised knowing that the rc stuff is something that has to be taken care of. he is very proud of the cars he has and loves to show them off to company.

as far as the chassis go i get them done for $20 for a 3 piece set. that is for any color (as long as it is a color that they carry).

back to kids and rc. look at the price you can get a used rc10 for off ebay. look at what a toy rc car (comparable in size) at wal-mart/toys-r-us/ect runs. decide early in the childs life what the main toys he will have to grow up with. for my boy i have chose the following.

hot wheels - great for pretend play, racing, and demo derby fun.
legos - great for building, designing, and creativity.
transformers - great for problem solving and working with your hands.
nintendo wii - coordination, problem solving, using a hand held device to complete a task.

all of the above help outwith skills geared for rc racing. other than the toys listed above my boy have very few other toys. until my son turned 3 years old me and him were basically joined at the hip. at the age of 3 he started public preschool. this was the very first time of us being apart. i don't do anything that i can't do with my son.

i think the earliest i was allowing him to hold pricey items was at the age of 2. and that was a $500 digital camera because he wanted to take a picture of me and mommy since we were (and are) excessive about taking pictures of him. he done great and he now have a picture of our crotches to remember the moment. the whole treat them like big kids and they will act like big kids (as in more mature) has worked great for us.
