Re: RC10 CE Restoration

Note: No vintage battery cups were harmed in the making of this post :-) My new battery cup finally arrived and I modified it to fit the battery pack. It looks like it turned out pretty good. From an aesthetic perspective I really like the looks of the Reedy battery pack- kind of matches the color ...

Re: RC10 CE Restoration

Thanks- yeah- I think it will look pretty good. I got a good deal on a pair of the protech bodies and figured I’d use the first one for learning about the process of finishing it (and running it). I’ll work on the other one later and hopefully will have learned a lot. I did order some body scissors ...

Re: RC10 CE Restoration

Made some more progress- this is my first time trimming a body and I used a hobby knife and limited patience. :-)

I am going to grab a Dremel and clean it up more before painting.

Thanks for all the info.

Re: RC10 CE Restoration

One other thing is that I also got a new Reedy Wolfpack NiMH battery (#694). It does not seem to fit in the battery tray properly. It's slightly longer and I would have to really force it in there which would deform the front tray. The positive and negative leads come right out of that same end whic...

Re: RC10 CE Restoration

I also grabbed an older Novak Explorer Sport off eBay. I think it's from 1995 so it's roughly the right era for a mid CE.

Re: RC10 CE Restoration

I got the bearings in and rebuilt the transmission. That first picture just shows the original bushings and appropriately sized bearings if anyone needs the info. I meant to take more pictures but would have needed a third hand. :-) Everything is super smooth now. I was able to reuse the felt gasket...

Re: RC10 CE Restoration

I thought I had read somewhere that the CE came with the Viper body which is why I was going to use one. I just checked in the manual and it looks like this kit came with a Protech II body (#6173) and wing (#6183). The only one I can find that’s described as Protech II is from a vendor called Team B...

Re: RC10 CE Restoration

Oh wow- I hadn’t seen those. Thanks!

I kind of dig the pink and orange stripes over white in some of the pictures I’ve seen of the CE.

XLR8 wrote: Fri Jul 20, 2018 9:21 pm Very nice. You're almost finished.
Have you decided which body/paint scheme you're going with?

Thanks!

I haven’t decided yet but will probably use the viper body and am thinking of trying to paint it myself.

Those bodies I’ve seen from Andy’s RC look great too.

Re: RC10 CE Restoration

Thanks for help-
I got a complete set of bearings on order (including for the Stealth transmission).

While I'm waiting for those I have made some more progress:

Re: RC10 CE Restoration

Hey Folks- So I started taking apart the transmission tonight and it looks like I need to get some bearings to replace all the bushings. I need a new felt gasket too- the existing one started disintegrating while I was taking if off. The manual describes this part as #6566 felt dust shield. I can't ...
